How to move your Native Instruments Kontakt Libraries to another volume

Move your Kontakt Libraries to another volume without having to point Kontakt to the new location, using SymbolicLinker!

The voice recording was done at the spur of the moment (in a noisy environment) with the built-in mic of the Macbook Pro Retina 13″. Apologies in advance. Subsequent noise-reduction was done with Izotope RX 4.

  1. A couple of days ago, I was moving most of my Kontakt libraries from the system drive to an external drive. I really did not know how to do it at all, so I searched out this video and did use this symbolic link method and it mostly worked. But then some libraries behaved funny in Kontakt, like not showing the right items when you clicked in 'Instruments'….. I'm not an expert at all, but I'm finding it more reliable to just remove a library in Kontakt, then move that library folder from the system drive to the external drive, then re-add that library in Kontakt. This seems the more straightforward method and in my case more reliable than using a symbolic link.
